La Llotja (spanska La Lonja)
Building work started in 1421 under the control of the architect and sculptor Guillem Sagrera (1370-1456), from Felanitx, who left the project almost completed in 1446 following disagreements with the sponsors. The final details of La Llotja were completed in 1488
Byggnaden går i gothisk stil och har stora detaljerade fönster som släpper in allt solljus. Taket är högt och är uppbyggt på välsvärvade pelare. Man kan även skymta adliga emblem lite varstans mellan de korsande grenarna.
An ogee is a curve (often used in moulding), shaped somewhat like an S, ... at an apex. Ogee arches were a feature of English Gothic architecture in the later thirteenth century.
Här skymtas Palmas palmer via de gigantiska fönstren inuti slottet.
Nu märks det att ljuset har en stor betydelse för arkitekturen.
Även från utsidan så blir man djupt fascinerad av fönstrets dekoration.
Jag blir även exalterad av att titta på dessa djurformade detaljerna på tornen.
The building which nowadays is as one of the protagonists of Palma?s maritime façade was originally the headquarters of the School of Merchants.
Guillem Sagrera, Majorcan well-known sculptor in the XV century, was entrusted to erect an adequate place for the merchant?s tasks and necessities. Therefore, during Martí l'Humà?s rule the works at La Lonja were commenced.
The result was a simple building, of a balanced composition, showing the island?s Gothic style. Rectangular shaped, it is divided into twelve sections, separated by six fluted columns which open up into ribs of a groined vault.
